Placenta Encapsulation
Placenta medicine has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries to help ease the healing and recovery for new mothers. Nearly all mammals engage in placentophagy (consuming the placenta) immediately after birth, and while some women choose to consume raw placenta, many women choose to have their placenta dried and put into pills. The placenta is full of the mother’s own hormones and nutrients that help stabilize mood, support healing, and maintain iron levels in the postpartum period. The placenta pills allow for a simple and gradual way to welcome these nutrients back into your body.
What are some of the benefits of placenta pills?
-
Hormone balancing - decreasing the "baby blues" and postpartum depression.
-
Increased breast milk production
-
Increased energy
-
Shorter postpartum bleeding
-
Iron supplementation
-
Quicker healing of the vaginal tissues
-
Aid in involution
-
There are also benefits when used for menopause
How is the placenta prepared?
I offer both the TCM and Raw processing methods.
-
The TCM Method involves steaming the placenta with lemon, ginger and chili pepper before it is thinly sliced, and dehydrated. The placenta is then ground into a fine powder and placed into vegetarian capsules and sealed in a jar. Some people report that the TCM method has a longer shelf life than the Raw.
-
The Raw/Dehydrated Method foregoes the initial steaming and is just sliced thin and dehydrated before being finely ground and encapsulated. Some people report that the Raw Method is "stronger" or "more potent."
The amount of capsules will depend on the size of the placenta and method of preparation, the placenta will yield anywhere from 90-200 'OO' size capsules (the Raw method tends to have a slightly higher yield than the TCM).
